The Porter at Claytons, Bath

porter-bath

Had lunch here having previously checked it out on TripAdvisor. I always like to eat at original, locally run venues as opposed to chains.

Set on the raised footpath near one end of George St. this is not on the eye line if you are walking so not somewhere you might happen across. The distinctive colour scheme caught jogged my memory from the TA photo when I spotted it so we went for lunch. There was a thirty minute wait on a Friday lunchtime as we hadn’t booked, but there is a really nice bar upstairs so we had a glass of bubbles while we waited.

The service was first class and we were seated within the specified time. There is a choice of the standard menu or set price lunch menu. The only difficulty was choosing from so many great sounding dishes. Three courses and a good bottle of Chablis later and we were in agreement that it was a fantastic dining experience.

We popped back later for early evening drinks before hitting the Christmas Market and the bar is also excellent. Next time we’re in Bath we’ll be going here for dinner, no contest.
